Ticks and Mosquitos!

Heartworm is spread by mosquitos and so the time is now to start your dog on a prevention program.  Over 75 dogs are diagnosed every year in Manitoba with heartworm.  Prevention can be as simple as getting your dog an injection between April 15-June 30, or giving a monthly pill starting at the end of May until the end of October.  If your pet has not been on a prevention program, call us today to get them started.

Ticks are pesky critters that can transmit disease such as Lyme disease.  Lyme has been diagnosed in the Parkland area and so it is here.  We have several options available for tick prevention.  We also carry a vaccine against Lyme disease.  (The vaccine can help but is not 100%)  For your safety, if you are removing ticks, try not to squeeze them more than you have to, use gloves or wash your hands immediately with soap and water.  Call us if you have questions regarding Lyme disease.
