Our Story

The Dauphin Veterinary Clinic began in 1962 as a small, one-room rural practice. Before long, a facility for large animals was built, expanding the care offered. In 1968, a new veterinary graduate, Dr. Thomas Colbert, made his way to Dauphin, where he devoted more than 40 years to the well-being of the animals in the Parkland. Besides running the clinic and treating animals, he mentored many young veterinarians, including Dr. Kevin Steinbachs and Dr. Roxane Plett.

Dr. Steinbachs and Dr. Plett, who first crossed paths as classmates in vet school, became business partners in 2002 when they took over the Dauphin Veterinary Clinic from Dr. Colbert and his wife, Doreen. When Dr. Colbert officially retired in 2008, he entrusted his beloved legacy of compassion, patience, and commitment to the community to his two protégés. The following year, they expanded by acquiring the Ste. Rose Veterinary Clinic.

Currently, the Dauphin – Ste. Rose Veterinary Clinic proudly supports pet owners and producers in Dauphin, Ste. Rose, Grandview, Gilbert Plains, Mossey River, Lakeshore, and McCreary, continuing the tradition of care and community connection.
