Opportunities for Students

We are proud to support the next generation of veterinary professionals by offering mixed-animal clinical rotations and externships for students enrolled in RVT or DVM programs. We also welcome prospective students looking to fulfill volunteer hour requirements for program admission. 

 

Gain hands-on exposure to clinical practice, patient care, and the daily operations of a mixed animal veterinary hospital under the guidance of licensed veterinarians and RVTs.

Choose Your Own Adventure

Our two clinic locations offer the ability to choose your focus. The Ste Rose Veterinary Clinic specializes in providing exceptional care for large animal patients (56%), primarily beef cattle, with a growing demand for small animal services (44%). At the Dauphin Veterinary Clinic, we focus on companion animals (89%) alongside seasonal care for large animals (11%).

Seasonality 

  • Calving Season runs from December to early Spring with peak calvings in February and March

  • Semen testing peaks in the Spring around May - June and pregnancy checking peaks in the Fall around October - November, although both are done all year round. 

  • Small Animal peaks in the spring time as well as Equine wellness.

Learning Opportunities & Responsibilities

  • Observe veterinary examinations, diagnostics, and surgical procedures

  • Assist with patient handling, restraint, and basic care

  • Support medical recordkeeping and client communication

  • Learn about laboratory procedures, imaging, and pharmacy operations

  • Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment

  • Participate in team rounds and case discussions as appropriate
     

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a veterinary, pre-veterinary, or related academic program

  • Strong interest in veterinary medicine and animal care

  • Compassionate, reliable, and eager to learn

  • Ability to work in a professional clinical environment

  • Comfortable handling animals of all species under supervision
